Self portrait with camera
About This Work
Painted in 2002 this painting was part of a series dealing with issues surrounding the male nude and voyeurism in art historical treatment of the nude. By using the camera I am showing the means in which I work with such paintings but an unsettling atmosphere is created by it's presence. This is more effective in it's companion piece which I am not showing here as it is more overtly erotic and may offend. The paint is applied in relatively thick layers and then scraped back using paint shaper, brushes and rags in order to create a translucent effect similar but not identical to the traditional use of glazes.
